The Telkom 94.7 Cycle Challenge is the world’s second largest timed cycle race held in the city of Johannesburg. Between 25,000 and 30,000 participants complete the challenging 94.7km course every year. The main sponsors for the events are 94.7 Highveld Stereo (Johannesburg’s number one radio station) and Telkom. This year the Cycle Challenge was held at the Kyalami Race Track on the 25th November 2017.
We spoke to Rory Fowler the Short Term Rental Manager at Manitou Southern Africa and asked him how his experience was at this year’s 94.7 Cycle Challenge.
How did you enjoy the 94.7 Cycle Challenge?
“This year’s event was very well organized, but the heat was quite over bearing being 32® Celsius. Having all the support from people cheering made is so much more enjoyable. There watering points were fully stocked and it was very well managed – with no traffic jams or chaos”
How did it compare to the 2015 Cycle Challenge?
“The addition of the Kyalami Race track was exhilarating. The newly laid surface allowed for “fast pace” in completing the laps. We enjoyed embracing the opportunity to display the various parking zones and hospitality sections with, our Manitou Telescopic machines. We proudly displayed the MTX732 Mine Spec, MTX1235, MTX1740 and the 180ATJ Access Platform. “
What other ways do you think Manitou Southern Africa could be more involved for the 2018 Telkom 94.7 Cycle Challenge?
“For Manitou Southern Africa to support the event in the way we do, does give Manitou a larger exposer to various corporate companies whom all have cyclists taking part in the 94.7 Cycle Challenge. “
However, other ways we could be more involved and getting our brand name out would be to sponsor branded water to the cyclists at each watering hole where the cyclists take a break to catch a breather.
