Forklift Range grows through new additions

Manitou has recently bolstered its range of rough terrain equipment with the introduction of conventional diesel, LPG and electric forklifts, as well as a range of warehousing machines that includes power pallet trucks, stackers, stock pickers and reach trucks.

Forklifts
The CD / CG range of diesel and LPG trucks, ranging from 1.8 to 3.5 tons in capacity, has been designed with the emphasis on performance and comfort and combines ergonomic design, modern styling and effective, reliable operation. The range is suitable for utilisation in nearly every industry and can carry and stack diverse loads both in indoor and outdoor applications. The safe and fast operation of the range ensures consistently achievable work cycle time and offers a lifting speed, with load, of 630mm/sec.

Fitted with robust ISUZU / NISSAN engines, the CD / CG range offers a hydrostatic load sensing steering system and torque converter transmission for optimum use under all ground and load conditions. The ergonomic design ensures maximum comfort and ease of use for the operator. The comprehensive instrumentation offers a constant visual display of all vital functions and the overhead guard design allows for unrestricted visibility while providing complete driver protection. The cabin also features a fully adjustable steering column, convenient positioning of hydraulic levers and foot pedals set out in an automotive design.

The presence of a built-in, overload relief valve that protects the system against excessive pressure, ensures maximum load safety at all times. Hydraulic cylinders complete with lowering check valves provide safe, controlled lowering in the unlikely event of loss of hydraulic pressure.

The range has also been designed with easy maintenance in mind. The reinforced, one piece engine cover allows easy access to all mechanical components thus reducing downtime and maintenance costs. The hydraulic and fuel systems are protected by a highly efficient filtration system that protects vital components and ensures top performance and reduced maintenance costs.

Truck mounted forklifts
Up to 30% savings on delivery time and increased versatility has also fuelled the growth in sales of truck-mounted forklifts from Manitou. Its Manitransit can be converted from truck-mounted to fully operational in under a minute, and incorporates a long enough boom to allow off-loading from only one side, which not only speeds up time per delivery by up to 30%, but also negates the use of telescopic forks and scissors during off-loading. The longer boom delivers a superior lifting height of 3,3m, and the company is doing testing in South Africa for a new roller carriage system that would further speed up offloading.

Several proprietary features and an innovative design approach further boost the range’s popularity worldwide, as well as the fact that Manitou machines are up to 300kg lighter than their competitors. Manitransit’s unique lateral motion system allows operators to optimise loading space by properly positioning loads within 150mm in each direction. A 360° field of vision makes for quick, accurate manoeuvring, while the cab is the largest available in the truck-mounted forklift market.

The French machine builder’s focus on safety is such that its truck-mounted forklifts incorporate two proprietary safety features. The first is a single, total braking pedal that disconnects the transmission and applies the parking brake at the same time.

A unique turning speed regulator further contributes to safety by automatically controlling machine speed according to the turning angle. Manitransit also comes standard with anti-skid control on its three-wheel drive system, and undergoes rigorous safety testing during manufacture that includes stability testing, cab strength testing and overload indicator testing.
With a comprehensive range to choose from, engines ranging from 27 to 50 HP and load/lifting capacities between 2 and 2,5t, Manitransits can function as loaders, lifters or fully-fledged yard trucks. Manitou can customise its machines and attachments, and has proven this capability in several instances to date.

Warehousing
In its warehousing range of equipment, Manitou offers electric 2 to 5 ton power pallet trucks, 1 to 3 ton stackers, 1.3 to 1.6 ton reach trucks, order pickers, tow tractors and an articulated reach truck. This comprehensive range of equipment covers the full spectrum of warehousing materials handling requirements.

Access Platforms
Manitou also launched a range of self-propelled electrical platforms for maintenance applications. The MANIACCESS AETJ platform series offers five models and has been designed to emphasise safety, compactness and accessibility.

The range complies with amendment A1 of the EN280 standard, providing complete safety during operation. A load control system prevents any inappropriate use of the machine and the rigidity of the various arm sections has been reinforced to provide unparalleled structural stability. The MANIACCESS AETJ range includes a compact version, which is ideal for utilisation in industrial sites where workspaces are often narrow and restricted. Light versions have also been developed where ease of transport is important.

A key feature of the range is versatility. The MANIACCESS models are equipped with a hanging arm with a pivoting cage making it perfectly suited to both industrial maintenance applications and second-fit finishing work. The models are available in several working heights.
The range is ergonomically designed for ease of operation, offers a hanging jib and 3-D option, and is well positioned to meet the dynamic demands of the industry. It is ideally suited for use in multiple applications including the automotive industry, foundries, construction, event preparation, signage, general industry and logistics.
